On Tuesday 13 December, Italy’s first private rail operator, Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori (NTV), unveiled its new .italo AGV very high-speed train. The first trainsets are slated to start regularly scheduled service on the Turin-Salerno and Rome-Venice lines in early 2012.
In 2008 NTV signed an agreement with Alstom for the supply of rolling stock (25 new AGV high-speed trains), train homologation, a three-year fleet maintenance service in the new Nola (Italy) facility and all the other related services.
The 11-car trains, which will run at 300 km/h (186 mph), will give the operator high capacity and differentiated seating among the approximately 460 places.
The AGV .talo combines articulated architecture with distributed power, and it is fitted with permanent magnet synchronous motors.
The AGV was designed in line with the latest European interoperability standards and complies with European and Italian environment and safety regulations. Commercial service will begin in 2011.
NTV will run the new high speed fleet between the main cities in Italy, offering a total of 54 trips daily: Turin, Milan, Venice, Bologne, Florence, Rome, Bari and Reggio di Calabria.
Trainsets interiors have several design schemes, including Club, Prima and Smart, all with free Wi-Fi and live television. The train will also include a 39-seat cinema car.
