British train operating company Chiltern Railways integrated mobile ticketing application is now available on Android phones. It enables passengers to buy, receive and display tickets through the app on their mobile phone. The ticketing application was initially launched for iPhone, BlackBerry, Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson amongst others and has been downloaded by over 30,000 customers, the company reports.
Chiltern Railways along with technology partners Masabi and Atos Origin are already looking at ways to develop this pioneering technology to meet the growing needs of passengers by plan to add new features such as real time service updates in the future.
This free mobile application provides passengers with details of the cheapest prices and train times, and then delivers the ticket as a 2D barcode within the application.
The company has also invested in special scanners on gates at stations to enable passengers to “touch in” and “touch out” of stations and also on equipment for ticket inspectors to read the mTicket.
